Nominations Galore For Newport Film Students

Newport students have received a record 20 nominations at this year's Ffresh Awards which recognise the best up-and-coming moving image talent in Wales.
The students, at the International Film School Wales (IFSW) gained four out of five nominations in two sections, best undergraduate fiction film and best TV film and three out of five nominations for best animation film.
Commenting on the high number of nominations, Humphry Trevelyan, Head of IFSW, said: "I am very pleased that so many of our students have received nominations for awards, especially as many of them are second year students.
"The Ffresh Awards are a showcase for the best work created by tomorrow's top talent in the film and TV industry. Newport has a long and proud tradition of film-making and it is very rewarding to see the high quality of our students' work being recognised. Last year, our students scooped six of the nine category awards at Ffresh and one of them also won the coveted Audience Award."
The winners will be announced at the festival which will be held in Aberystwyth from February 11-13, 2009.
The International Film School Wales, which is part of the University of Wales, Newport, is a lead partner of the Skillset Screen Academy Wales and has been approved by the UK film industry as a centre of excellence for film education and training. IFSW students will be among those based in the University's new multi-million pound City Centre Campus, which is envisaged to be a hothouse of creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial activity when it is completed in 2010.
