Remembrance Short Film Wins Accolade

A leader in video solutions, the Thomson Grass Valley EDIUS nonlinear editing software from Thomson was recently used to finish an award-nominated short film. John Westwood, of Australia, took second place in the video category of the Seagate Precious Memories Competition 2008 for his entry entitled HMAS Yarra, a tribute to a famous Australian warship.
The competition, run by Seagate International, a leader in advanced digital storage solutions, offered videographers and photographers from 10 countries across Asia Pacific the chance to submit videos or photographs of precious memories from their lives, highlighting the importance of storage back-up for protecting memories.
In addition to a national prize of a Maxtor One Touch 4 500GB and $500 cash, Westwood also won a Maxtor One Touch 4 750GB drive and $1,000 as a regional prize for his film about HMAS Yarra.
The story has personal relevance to Westwood as his father was one of only 13 survivors when the ship sank in 1942.
"Creativity doesn't come in a box, but it sure helps to have great tools like EDIUS. I have over 25 years' experience in the video industry and I've experienced many forms of creative tools," said Westwood.
"The Thomson Grass Valley EDIUS simply has the features and format support I need so I can focus on what I do best - editing. EDIUS complements my creative input when designing broadcast and corporate documentary work."
Westwood's video was selected from over 30 video finalists by the esteemed judging panel which included celebrities, videographers, photographers and representatives of Seagate International.
