Icon Entertainment Acquires Worldwide Rights To 'Hunger'
Icon Entertainment (IEI) has acquired worldwide rights to 'Hunger', a compelling film about the 1981 IRA hunger strike in Northern Ireland's Maze Prison, directed by the acclaimed British visual artist and filmmaker Steve McQueen.
The film comes to IEI through Icon's recent acquisition of the Australian media group Becker Entertainment, which includes the sales operation Becker International.
'Hunger' has also been chosen to screen in Official Selection as the Opening Night Film of the prestigious 'Un Certain Regard' section of the 61st Cannes Film Festival which opens today.
Ariel Veneziano, President of Icon Entertainment International, commented: "We are thrilled to be able to bring 'Hunger' to the international marketplace. It's an important project from an exciting first-time director.
"Being selected as the Opening Night Film for 'Un Certain Regard' just confirms what an outstanding film 'Hunger' is."
In addition to 'Hunger', IEI will also be representing worldwide rights for other Becker projects including the animated feature 'Mary & Max' from Academy Award-winning director Adam Elliot featuring the voice-talent of Toni Collette and Eric Bana as well as Dan Castle's 'Newcastle', which recently had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival. Also part of IEI's Cannes line-up are supernatural thriller 'Triangle', directed by Chris Smith ('Severance', 'Creep') starring Melissa George and futuristic action thriller 'Push' directed by Paul McGuigan ('Lucky Number Slevin') starring Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning and Djimon Hounsou, which Icon is co-financing and co-selling with Summit.
