'Cranford' Steals The Show At BPG Awards

The star studded BBC One Drama 'Cranford' has sweeped the board at the 34th annual Broadcasting Press Guild Awards.
Eileen Atkins won the 'battle of the Dames', beating veteran actress Judi Dench and Maggie Smith to be named best TV actress.
Cranford also picked up best television drama series, best writer's award and best actor which went to Philip Glenister.
BBC Presenter Andrew Marr was named 'best performer in a non-acting role' for the Andrew Marr Show and also won best documentary series for his History of Modern Britain.
BBC programmes were a big presence in the awards with sitcom Gavin & Stacey winning the award for best comedy/entertainment programme.
Top Gear, the compulsive viewing series for car fanatics won best factual entertainment programme.
BBC Radio 5 Live's Simon Mayo was named broadcaster of the year for his weekday afternoon programme. BBC 6 Music's Adam and Joe Show won the award for radio programme of the year.
Channel 4's Boy A won the award for best single television drama. ITV 1's controversial Malcolm and Barbara: Love's Farewell, was voted best single documentary.
The History Channel's Falklands: the Islanders' War won best multi-channel programme. The Innovation Award was given to Bebo for its drama KateModern.
Phil Redmond, who launched three long-running TV series - Grange Hill, Brookside and Hollyoaks - won the Harvey Lee Award for outstanding contribution to broadcasting.
The prestigious awards - voted by those who write about TV and radio - will be presented today at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, sponsored for the second time by Turner Broadcasting.
The Broadcasting Press Guild was founded in 1974 and has more than a hundred members.
