Lime Pictures Selects Tektronix As Part Of New HD Workflow

Tektronix, a leading worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, has announced that one of the UK's largest independent television producers, Lime Pictures, has chosen to install 14 of the companies WFM7020 and WFM7120 HD video and audio waveform monitors as an integral part of its new high definition production and post-production environment.
The increase in high definition (HD) broadcasting has highlighted the necessity for accurate monitoring to maintain broadcast standards and deliver high quality picture and sound. The broad range of digital video and audio waveform monitors from Tektronix provide consistent, dependable monitoring to ensure the quality of SD and HD content.
Lime Pictures, formerly Mersey Television, is responsible for some of the best-known popular drama on British television, including Channel 4's teen soap 'Hollyoaks'.
Channel 4 recently commissioned 'Hollyoaks' to be produced in HD, to serve as a flagship show for its new HD channel on the Sky platform. In order to meet this requirement, Lime Pictures needed to upgrade its production and post-production workflow from SD to HD.
During the planning process, the company quickly recognised the importance of building high quality monitoring solutions into its new HD workflow, leading to the purchase of 14 Tektronix WFM7020/7120 HD/SD video and audio waveform monitors.
The HD, Dual Link and 3G-capable WFM7120 waveform monitor offers high performance monitoring and measurement capabilities, while the HD, Dual Link and 3G-capable WFM7020 waveform monitor offers basic monitoring capabilities. Both WFM7120 and WFM7020 come standard with SD-SDI format support. Composite analog video support and audio support (including Dolby E and Dolby Digital, embedded AES/EBU digital audio, as well as analog audio) are optional.
The Tektronix waveform monitors will be used for signal monitoring in an HD SDI production and post-production environment. When the 'Hollyoaks' installation is completed, virtually all of Lime Pictures' projects will be produced in HD. Transmission of 'Hollyoaks' in HD is scheduled to start in June on Channel 4 HD.
Graham Deaves, Technical Consultant with Lime Pictures, who is overseeing the conversion to HD, said: "The Tektronix waveform monitors are very sophisticated and follow the Tektronix tradition for high quality and usability. We are required to produce programming to exacting standards and the Tektronix equipment will allow us to do this."
Eben Jenkins, Director of Video Product Line at Tektronix, said: "The global trend towards HD broadcasting means that content creators must be even more vigilant to ensure the quality of their output. Production companies can avoid expensive problems by building in accurate testing processes as an integral part of their workflow.
"The WFM7020 and WFM7120 provide the tools to verify and correct video and audio content quickly and accurately, allowing companies like Lime Pictures to make the transition to HD with confidence."
