'Bionic Woman' Gets Off To Strong Start On ITV2

ITV2 enjoyed an audience of over two million last night for the launch of US action series ‘Bionic Woman’ starring former Eastender Michelle Ryan.
However, despite these record viewing figures for the ITV digital channel, the series is rumoured as being axed by NBC, after just one series, because of flagging ratings in the U.S.
Bionic Woman, the creation of David Eick, is a re-imaging of the original television series by Kenneth Johnson. The series revolves around Jaime Sommers, a bartender who receives experimental medical implants.
The show premiered on the NBC network on September 26, 2008 rivalling 'The West Wing' premiere in 1999.
However, rating subsequently declined in succeeding episodes and the series has suffered due to the strike by the Writers Guild of America.
ITV 2’s previous best was 1.9 million for the raucous ‘Footballers’ Wives: Extra Time’ in 2005 while saucy drama ‘The Secret Diary of a Call Girl’ launched with 1.8 million in September, 2007.
Bionic Woman also saw timeshift channel ITV2+1 best ever audience with 333,000 viewers and a 2.2% mulitchannel share over 30 minutes from 10pm.
