Netflix Increases Blu-Ray Stock

Netflix, a world leading online movie rental service, are to increase Blu-Ray stock.
The company’s decision to drop support for the HD-DVD format - just after film producer and distributor heavyweight Warner Bros pulled out - came around the same time as BestBuy and Walmart jumped ship.
Netflix Vice President, Steve Swasey commented: “The war is over and Blu-Ray has won.”
However, prior to Netflix’s official announcement that it was to back Blu-Ray on February 11, the company took a neutral stance.
Swasey added: “We were agnostic all the way through until we saw the clear announcement in January. Ninety-three percent of the players sold in the following weeks were Blu-Ray.”
Although customers are reticent about investing in new and more expensive technology, Swasey - although not providing an official figure - has said that around a million new generation disc players were sold in the run up to Blu-Ray’s victory.
Blu-Ray fans in the US can expect an increased availability of the format now as Netflix aim to cope with increasing demand.
“We have a certain amount allocated for acquiring discs, and when we’re not requiring one, we can put that amount toward acquiring the other. We should be requiring more of the Blu-Ray titles,” said Swasey.
Meanwhile, HD-DVD owners will still be able to rent titles in the old format until current stock is exhausted.
Netflix provide more than seven million subscribers access to more than 90,000 DVD titles plus a growing library of more than 5,000 choices that can be watched instantly on their PCs.
