Polecam Reports Successful Broadcast Live & Video Forum

Polecam reports a buoyant and successful Broadcast Live & Video Forum 2008. Held at London's Earls Court 2, January 30 through February 1, the event was a first-time amalgamation of the mid-summer Broadcast Live show into the mid-winter Video Forum.
"We have been exhibiting at Video Forum for several years," commented Polecam Sales & Marketing manager Mel Noonan.
"The new two-in-one format attracted high levels of attendance on all three days, including several visitors from mainland Europe and even from India. We talked to a good cross-section of potential customers from the corporate, educational and public-service sectors which Video Forum has long been good for, and on through established video production companies, freelance camera operators, and mainstream broadcasters such as the BBC.
"For the first time we offered free extras for every Polecam rig or camera purchased at the show, and that proved very effective," he said.
Polecam's exhibit centred on the versatile and easily transportable camera support system from which the company is named. Over 200 Polecam rigs have been delivered worldwide for applications ranging from commercials, news, live sports and drama productions to open-heart surgery for medical training.
Polecam was shown rigged short and long, its range being 5 to 20 feet (1.5 to 6 metres). Designed for use with miniature HD and SD cameras, Polecam provides smooth floating jib arm shots with the ability to relocate quickly and easily. It can be attached to a body harness or mounted on a standard lightweight tripod and dolly. A radical redesign of the jib arm concept, Polecam comes complete with five 40 mm diameter carbon-fibre sections, each around 1 metre in length.
A small FX microphone is also positioned at the end of the boom. It is easily transported in two custom-designed CP bags supplied in the package, with hard transit cases as an option. Polecam introduces the concept of a crane which needs no forward planning; you can have it there with you and decide on the spot when to use it. Ten minutes later, with no tools, it is fully operational.
Following its recent appointment as worldwide master distributor for Camera Corps, Polecam also exhibited the new CCU-5 camera control unit which allows easy remote operation of many makes and models of broadcast camera including those which are not always provided with a CCU by their manufacturer.
Each of the five camera-select buttons on the 354 x 102 x 60 mm controller can be programmed to control different types of camera. Each camera connects via balanced audio cable to its respective interface module which delivers power and performs control signal decoding.
Polecam now sells successfully around the world from its base near Bedford.
