Yorkshire Companies Winning Formula At Sheffied Doc/Fest
Yorkshire companies were on the winning teams for both of the cross platform pitching competitions at Sheffield Doc/Fest, proving that the region is home to some of the most innovative production and new media companies in the UK.
Cross Media Challenge UK, a partnership between the National Film Board of Canada and Sheffield Doc/Fest, brought together potential production partners to develop content for new platforms.
The award winning project 'My Dangerous Loverboy' is a ground-breaking web and mobile site that will raise awareness about global sex trafficking and create an online community for at-risk young girls and their wider peer group to offer support and share advice.
The project was developed by director Virginia Heath, Vita Nova Films and Quba New Media, all based in Sheffield.
'Tomorrow's Today' took the £10,000 award as the winner of the Crossover Labs UK pitch. The Project is a cutting edge cross platform project encompassing a factual entertainment TV series, online community debate and live exhibition. Diarmid Scrimshaw, Producer at Sheffield based Warp Films was on the winning team, alongside Anna Higgs, Quark Films and Tim Morgan, Mint Digital.
Frank Boyd of Unexpected Media, Creative Director of Crossover Labs UK, said: "We're delighted to have been able to participate in this ground-breaking event. The Sheffield Doc/Fest has in the past couple of years become the leading focus in Europe for innovation in documentary and factual media.
"The festival's vision combined with Screen Yorkshire's commitment to supporting the development of new media will make the region a key source of new ideas and new talent in UK's audio visual industries over the next decade," he concluded.
