DTT Utilising Satellite Distribution To Extend Coverage

Digital Terrestrial Television is increasingly using the satellite distribution to extend its coverage to 100 per cent of population, with examples in the UK (Freesat), France and probably Spain in the near future. Reaching the last 15 per cent of the population through terrestrial networks has proved to be very expensive, that is why satellite distribution is being used to enable cost-effective full DTT coverage. However, the problem is that satellite footprints are not bounded to a country and there are limited media rights restrictions that are necessary to fulfill. The International DVB technology provider SIDSA is supplying a Contribution Protection System, KeyFly CDN, that is specifically designed for the protection of signal contributions over satellite links to the terrestrial networks.
KeyFly CDN can be used with free-to-air or encrypted transmissions. KeyFly CDN does not add new packets to the network. It can use a CAM inserted in a professional or even a consumer IRD to decrypt the contribution, preserving the investments already made in IRDs on reception points. Additionally, KeyFly CDN is able to support OTA and rights provisioning.
KeyFly CDN is part of SIDSA’s KeyFly Conditional Access Products, a security system for each environment with KeyFly CDN and KeyFly Broadcasting as the main features. KeyFly Broadcasting is the safest Conditional Access System, necessary to support all business models.
