Broadcasts Of Mobile Multimedia On View Throughout IBC 2007

IBC exhibitors and delegates will be able to view IBC TV News, IBC Info Channel and other content using the latest handsets, mobile terminals and monitors, wherever they are within the RAI Centre in Amsterdam.
Thanks to a number of manufacturers who have supplied the latest equipment, IBC will be transmitting three DVB-H channels, a MediaFlo channel and a WiMax transmission.
Two of the DVB-H transmissions will be made from the Amsterdam Tower, situated 0.5km due south of the RAI Exhibition Centre. These transmissions will use 8MHz bandwidth, on UHF channels 23 and 28. The facilities in the Amsterdam Tower are supplied by Alticom, who have provided accommodation for the racks of equipment and antennas as well as feeder and power installation services.
Satellite receivers and encapsulation equipment to produce the first DVB-H multiplex on channel 23 is from Nokia Siemens Systems. Rohde & Schwarz has provided a 200W transmitter with integral DVB-H modulator for this platform.
RRD has provided all the equipment required for the second DVB-H multiplex, including satellite receivers, encapsulator, DVB-H modulator and a 200W transmitter operating on UHF channel 28.
Also located within the Amsterdam Tower facilities, Qualcomm MediaFlo is providing a complete multiplexing and transmission system with 200W output power, transmitting with a centre frequency of 719MHz and a bandwidth of 6MHz.
The third DVB-H service is from SIDSA, including encapsulation and a low power transmitter on UHF channel 37 from within the IPTV Zone. A reference test stream is available for download from the company’s ftp site: host ftp.sidsa.com, user name sidsa, password .s1ds3. This transport stream includes both CBMS and OMA BCAST service guides.
DB Broadcast have provided professional satellite receiving equipment and distribution systems for the provision of content to both the DVB-H and MediaFlo systems.
The DVB-H and Flo broadcasts can be received anywhere within the RAI Centre and delegates are invited to visit these companies at their stands in the Mobile and IPTV Zones in hall 12 to learn more about receiving these services and to view the content on the very latest handsets.
Within the RAI centre Motorola, in conjunction with their Netherlands partners Globemax, has provided a WiMax base station transmitting a unicast version of the IBC Info Channel which is MPEG-4 and IP encoded with encoders provided by Envivio. The transmit antenna systems and combiners, satellite reception of the content and project management for this installation is by National Grid Wireless. The transmission is received and displayed on monitors at the National Grid Wireless and Envivio stands.
