Big Screen D-Cinema Treats At IBC

Digital cinema will be a central part of IBC this year and the theme day on Monday is part of a d-cinema programme that runs virtually the length of the event, with screenings and special events as well as demonstrations of the latest technology.
The screening programme starts with an HD showcase on Friday night, featuring music from the likes of The Who and The White Stripes, but also including a selection of Korean and Chinese trailers, showing how digital technology is transforming Asian cinema.
Sunday starts with a celebration of 25 years of HD in Europe at 9.30, and at 14.00 the BBC Natural History Unit has a showcase to mark its receiving the unique IBC 40th anniversary award.
One of the highlights of IBC2007 is at 18.30 on Sunday, with a live interview with film-maker, Oscar winner and special effects pioneer Robert Zemeckis. That will be followed by another treat: U2 live in concert and captured in 3D, courtesy of 3ality Digital Systems and Assimilate.
The Monday night movie is Ratatouille, courtesy of Pixar Animations and Buena Vista International.
On Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday there are technology demonstrations from a number of manufacturers, including Arri, Christie, Dalsa, Doremi, Panavision, Red, Sony and Thomson. All of these screenings and demonstrations are free to all IBC visitors.
Alongside the theme day on Monday there are a number of other important conference sessions which will be of interest to those in the d-cinema world. These include two sessions run by the European Digital Cinema Forum: on Sunday afternoon on 3D production and post (in association with SMPTE) and the usual Tuesday morning open meeting.
The two EDCF sessions are free to all visitors. The exhibition runs from Friday 7 - Tuesday 11 September.
