PixelDrive II Escapes Into The Park

Radical Lighting’s new PixelDrive 2 system was used to drive eight plasma screens and LED lighting in the Polysexual (hard house) arena at the Escape To The Park Festival in Singleton Park, Swansea.
This was supplied by Leeds-based Zig Zag Lighting, who were lighting contractors for the whole site, and were working to a production lighting design created by Simon Barrington and Andrea Frey of Godskitchen.
The PixelDrive 2 was operated by Radical Lighting’s Simon Carter via an Avolites Diamond 4 Elite lighting desk, who used the event to demonstrate first hand the versatility of the new Version 2, and the fact it can simultaneously drive both LED lighting fixtures and video screens – all via the lighting desk.
The plasmas were arranged on a series of curved truss sections around the stage at different heights and angles. Simon Barrington was particularly keen to have plasma screens in this arena, but he also wanted them controlled from a single central source rather than having a separate video control. At that point Zig Zag’s Neil Hunt thought it was an ideal opportunity to put PixelDrive 2 though it’s paces – with 12 hours of continuous operation.

It’s currently available in two versions – Full and Personal – the latter allowing those working on smaller scale shows and events to access the majority of the features at a reduced cost.
PixelDrive 2’s main New Features include: a new control fixture for high resolution 3D based video playback (RlVideo); a Personality Editor allowing the easy creation of new profiles for color mixers; support for non-rectangular colour mixers; a new Cuelist based scheduler; selectable grids with a snap function; an Auto-Align utility; a DMX Auto re-patch function; the ability to Flip and Swap images horizontally or vertically; Group colour mixers can be grouped and treated as a single selection; MIDI support; an Identify function allowing easy location of fixtures; High resolution video output for controlling VersaTUBEs, ColorWeb and other low-resolution LED fixtures and surfaces.
