YLE To Use Kaleido-X Processor At Eurovision

Miranda Technologies have announced that YLE, Finland’s national public service broadcaster, will be using a Kaleido-X multi-room, multi-image processor to monitor the signals for the live broadcast of the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest from the Helsinki Arena.
The event is expected to reach around one thousand million viewers and listeners in May.
“For the hosting city, live coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest is always a mammoth task. With the increasing number and diversity of signals and standards around the world, it’s even more imperative that the processing and monitoring equipment performs flawlessly on the night,” said Kaj Flood, Technical Manager at YLE.
“We’re using a Kaleido-X for monitoring because of its exceptional image quality. It will also allow any of the 16 voting city feeds to be displayed multiple times, and at any size up to full screen, across any of its displays.”
YLE’s Kaleido-X will be located in the Arena’s master control room, and it will receive and monitor the incoming signals from the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) voting cities, as well as up to eight SD and HD signals from the main broadcast operation for worldwide transmission via satellite.
The multi-image display processor’s integral HD/SD router will be used to feed multiple video monitors across the facility. YLE operators will use two Kaleido-X remote control panels for rapid adjustment of parameters such as layout configurations, and for selecting sources for full screen monitoring.
Miranda’s Kaleido-X features an expandable multi-room architecture, based on a chassis with 96 inputs and 8 independent multi-image display outputs. The built-in router offer access to any unprocessed HD/SD-SDI input for feeding monitors, test equipment, and ISO recorders. Its highly robust design features multiple points of redundancy, and no single point of failure for reliable 34/7 operation.
Multiple Kaleido-X processors can be linked together to create large system’s which can fully address the very larges monitoring requirements. An intuitive multi-room layout editor simplifies the sharing and presentation of sources across multiple areas.
The processor offer the highest quality multi-image output without compression, with superior on-screen graphics, for the most critical monitoring applications. It also offers unprecedented audio monitoring performance, with the ability to monitor up to 2304 channels of audio, including embedded, discrete AES, or discrete analogue.
