FremantleMedia Laud Bafta Comedy Nominations
The cream of FremantleMedia Enterprises’ (FME) comedy leads the field in the Bafta nominations.
Nominated in the Comedy Programme category is 'That Mitchell and Webb Look' from Robert Webb and David Mitchell of Peep Show fame. The series, which debuted late last year, is filled with riotous characters and ideas-driven sketches, lampooning the likes of the Nazis right down to Her Majesty the Queen. Intelligent, socially acute, sometimes satirical, sometimes bizarre, but always funny! Brand new series two episodes will be on offer at MIPTV, with 12 x 30’ available in total from FME.
FremantleMedia takes three out of four nominations in the Situation Comedy category, with Pulling and talkbackTHAMES-produced The IT Crowd and Green Wing. Pulling, from Silver River Productions, will launch internationally at next week’s MIPTV, and is an irreverent and very real insight into life as a modern singleton. Written by Sharon Horgan and Dennis Kelly, Pulling launched to rave reviews on BBC3 in late 2006, premiering with a share 94% higher than the channel’s prime time average. FME will unveil 12 x 30’ episodes (series 1 and 2), to international buyers.
Other FME brands and talkbackTHAMES-produced series nominated for BAFTAs this year include The X Factor for Entertainment Programme, The Apprentice in the Features category and Munich: Mossad’s Revenge (aka Munich: The Real Assassins) from Atlantic Productions in the Specialist Factual category. Stephen Fry is also in contention for the Entertainment Performance award for his work on QI.
David Ellender, CEO, FremantleMedia Enterprises, commented: “Congratulations to all of the FremantleMedia and talkbackTHAMES programmes and personalities who have been recognised by their peers as leaders in their field - we wish them all the best for the BAFTAs! We are particularly proud as we look to MIPTV next week where we will be launching Pulling and Modern Toss to the international market and featuring returning series That Mitchell and Webb Look, The IT Crowd, Man Stroke Woman and Comedy Inc as part of our comedy slate.”
Winners of the British Academy Television Awards will be announced at the London Palladium on 20 May.
Visit FremantleMedia Enterprises at MIPTV 2007 at Stand No. RB1 Riviera Beach, Palais des Festivals, 16 – 20 April.
