HanWay Films Announces Casting For 'Dirt Music'

HanWay Films announced today the casting of Oscar-winner Rachel Weisz (The Constant Gardener) and Colin Farrell (Miami Vice and currently shooting In Bruges for Focus Features) in Phillip Noyce’s film of Tim Winton’s sweeping epic novel DIRT MUSIC set in the haunting and extreme landscape of North Western Australia.
The film adaptation of Winton’s Booker Prize short-listed and bestselling novel DIRT MUSIC is set to begin shooting in August in Australia’s Northern Territories. Acclaimed director Phillip Noyce (Clear and Present Danger, Rabbit Proof Fence) and Miranda Culley through their Rumbalara Films company have developed the screenplay and are producing, with Jeremy Thomas’ Recorded Picture Company executive producing.
This epic love story centres on a woman (Rachel Weisz) living in a remote community who struggles against isolation and a loveless relationship. A chance encounter with a mysterious drifter (Colin Farrell) re-ignites her passion for life and allows her to break free from her past. But her past will not release her so easily, and what ensues is a fight to the very last breath for love and survival.
“At HanWay we always knew that the extraordinary love story at the heart of DIRT MUSIC needed actors of great stature and commercial appeal. Rachel Weisz and Colin Farrell are two artists at the top of their game who will add great marquee appeal for our international distribution partners,” commented Tim Haslam, CEO of HanWay Films.
Leading British independent HanWay Films was founded in 1998 and has quickly established itself as a respected, international sales, distribution and marketing company, delivering a diverse range of high-profile, quality films for worldwide distribution.
The company arranges financing, sales and distribution for films from Jeremy Thomas’ Recorded Picture Company (RPC) as well as third-party producers and directors. Recently announced films include: Julien Jarrold’s Brideshead Revisited, Gerald McMorrow’s Franklyn and Michael Winterbottom’s Genova; while new releases include, Becoming Jane and Away From Her.
The company manages extensive film libraries, including libraries by Merchant Ivory, Peter Weir, Wim Wenders as well as the RPC and HanWay Libraries.
