MercuryMedia And Aggregator Licence 50 Films Ahead Of Portal Launch
MercuryMedia and Aggregator Limited have announced they have licensed an initial 50 films from some of the leading international factual producers and distributors, in advance of the launch of their co-owned broadband portal joiningthedots.tv in February 2007.
The list which includes titles from distributors; Roco Films, Minotaur International, TVF International, Verve Films, Wysiwyg Films, and producers Movietron, Bigert and Bergstrom, Charon Films, Pissant Productions, Louder Than Words LLC, Globalvision LLC, Riz Khan Productions, Hopscotch Films, Films Grain De Sable, Babalu Pictures and San Andreas Films, will be grouped into strands that cut across the traditional categorisation of documentaries and shed new light onto the subjects they cover. The strand titles are: ‘Life and Death’, ‘Another World’, ‘Our New Society’, ‘Forgotten History’, ‘Hidden Lives’, ‘A Different Love’, ‘The Future Of Change’ and ‘The New Politics’.
Ben Ross, Head Of Acquisitions at jtd commented: "I am particularly pleased by the enthusiastic reaction to the joiningthedots.tv concept from both producers and distributors – they really get what we are trying to do. Every film we have licensed stakes a claim to be watched in the newly emerging on-demand world. The site’s appeal to viewers is more than the sum of its parts. Each film is important individually but taken together, the films provide a new insight into the world which we are sure will appeal to our target audience of free thinking individuals."
Tim Sparke, Managing Director of jtd added: "We are offering something new to the intelligent viewer. Traditional TV through its concentration on offering banal subject matter seems to have forgotten the audience that wants challenging programming. By going direct to these viewers through Aggregator’s leading edge platform, and cutting out the schedulers and the advertisers, we are giving power back to the audience by giving them a real alternative.
