Big Finale For Cardiff Film Festival

The closing night gala film of the 2006 Cardiff Film Festival will be Pathe’s dark-comedy Big Nothing.
Partly shot in south Wales and directed by Jean-Baptiste Andrea, the film starring Alice Eve, Simon Pegg and ex-Friends heartthrob, David Schwimmer, will have a special preview screening at 7.30pm on Saturday 18th November, at Cineworld, Cardiff.
Supported by funding from the Wales Creative IP Fund, part of the Welsh Assembly Government's wider initiative for the Creative Industries in Wales, a number of scenes from Big Nothing were shot in and around Barry, Caerwent and Monmouthshire.
Big Nothing tells the story of Charlie Wood, a frustrated, unemployed teacher who decides to take revenge on life. He embarks on a supposedly fool-proof blackmailing scheme with an unpredictable scammer Gus Dickinson and Josie McBroom, an ambitious former teenage beauty queen turned con-artist. Just as things get really bad for the ill-fated trio, you can rest assured, they are about to get much worse.
Linda James, Wales Creative IP Fund said: “I’m delighted Big Nothing has been selected as the closing film for this year’s Cardiff Film Festival. This is the first feature film the Wales Creative IP Fund has directly supported. To now see what was a great idea on paper making it to the big screen is very exciting.“
Sarah Howells, Cardiff Film Festival Director, said: “This star studded stylish and darkly-comedic film is the perfect way to end this year’s Cardiff Film Festival. With scenes shot locally, it makes it all the more special. After a packed ten-day programme of fantastic films and events, Big Nothing will be the icing on the cake for us.”
The Cardiff Film Festival, running at Cardiff’s Chapter Arts Centre in Canton and Cineworld in Cardiff’s city centre, began on November 8 ends November 18 .
