Turner to open original production unit in UK

Turner Broadcasting Europe has announced the formation of an Original Productions Unit based in London, which will house a hotbed of creative talent with the aim of creating the best content in Europe.
This development comes as a result of significant investment which has been provided in an effort to increase the amount of wholly-owned Turner content originating outside of the USA.
Creation of the Original Productions Unit further establishes Turner Broadcasting Europe as a global investor and producer of innovative and new animation. The new venture will allow Turner to wholly own content and distribute, control and exploit IP whilst producing entertaining brand new creator led shows for audiences.
The team will be led by Finn Arnesen, SVP Original Series and International Development, who said: "This investment is an excellent opportunity to tap into local talent and expertise which allows us to increase the amount of compelling content for our channels. With many talented creatives in the region, this initiative positions us to leverage the strength of Cartoon Network and to develop the global hits of the future."
Cartoon Network Europe already successfully co-produces shows with European production companies and distribution partners. Currently the majority of wholly-owned Turner content has come from the USA in the form of Cartoon Network Originals such as The Powerpuff Girls, Dexter's Laboratory and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.
The UK Original Productions Unit is due to open in 2007.
