Australian post-production facility adopts Autodesk’s Discreet Flame

Autodesk has announced the first purchase in Asia Pacific of its flagship Discreet Flame visual effects system running on the Linux operating system.
The purchase was made by Frame, Set & Match (FSM), a Sydney-based, independent post-production facility with more than 20 years of experience in television commercials, feature films, television series and television documentaries.
FSM’s post-production workflow now includes two of Autodesk’s Discreet Flame systems on Linux, a customised Discreet Flame system on IRIX, and Autodesk’s Discreet Fire nonlinear editing/finishing system. These Autodesk systems form the backbone of FSM’s visual effects, compositing and long-form editing services.
FSM’s Managing Director Rick Schweikert, said: “Autodesk’s Discreet Flame is what our clients ask for, and we’re delighted that we can accommodate demand. We replaced one of our original Discreet Flame systems on SGI hardware with the new Discreet Flame running Linux on IBM hardware. We’ve found the new system to be reliable and fast. In fact, it was so great that we purchased an additional Flame. Having three Flame systems, along with Fire, makes it incredibly efficient and easy to schedule work. Operationally, our compositors can work in any of the Autodesk suites without having to adapt to different systems.”
