NETWORK 2 SCREEN BITTER-SWEET COMEDY

STRAIGHT To Video is a stylistically unique, six-part comedy drama series which will be shown on Network 2, on September 6.
Written by Karl MacDermott and directed by Martin Mahon, each episode is in the form of a video diary made by the main characters.
Peppered with some of Ireland’s greatest acting talent, ‘Straight To Video’ is funny, real, bitter-sweet and decidedly quirky.
Karl MacDermott has written extensively for stage and radio. As a comedy performer he appeared regularly with his one man shows on the Irish comedy circuit and at the Edinburgh Fringe, where he was one of the surprise hits in 1991 with ‘An Afternoon With Klaus Barbie’s Pen-Pal’.
MacDermott’s six-part situation comedy ‘The Mahaffys’ was broadcast by BBC Radio 4 to critical acclaim.
Director Martin Mahon wrote and directed the short drama ‘The Condom’ in 1996, and since then has directed three other 35mm short films, ‘The Big Match’, ‘Another Day’, and ‘Happy Birthday to Me’, the latter selected for Official Competition in the 1998 Cannes Film Festival, the first Irish film to ever receive this accolade.
Mahon has a number of feature-film scripts now in development.
