Red Kite helps BBC Radio Scotland 'bloom'

Award-winning Scottish animation company Red Kite has turned sound into vision with a new commission to make trails for BBC Radio Scotland.
The 10 x 30-second promotional campaign, entitled 'Flowers', aims to demonstrate the unique variety and volume of Radio Scotland’s new music programmes, which range from cutting edge indie rock to bagpiping.
Red Kite responded to the challenge by designing bespoke animated sequences set in a funky floral ‘meadow’, set to short iconic music clips, each representing a different music programme.
The campaign is given a humorous twist by the use of pseudo Latin plant names. Vic Galloway’s indie-flavoured programme becomes 'Rockus extremis', Jazz House is 'Villa laidbacchus' and the new show by cult makeover stars Colin & Justin becomes 'Campus decorus'.
BBC Radio Scotland’s Promotions Director, Ruth Palmer, who ordered the commission said: “I initially explored ways in which I might use graphically-treated live action footage but quickly realised the variety, composition and movement of flowers which I needed could only be achieved if they were created from scratch.”
The commission reinforces Red Kite’s reputation as a world class animation company working across a range of disciplines including broadcast, short film and corporate idents. (CD/CL)
