EUTELSAT AND NERA ENTER PARTNERSHIP

EUTELSAT, Europe’s Satellite Operators and Nera, developers in design, manufacturing and marketing of wireless telecommunications equipment have announced their strategic partnership for the development of broadband access via satellite.
At the core of this agreement is a contract to build a pilot satellite network based on the new international open standard DVB-RCS (Return Channel Over Satellite).
Nera will develop and deliver a complete DVB-RCS network, including both hubs and terminals. EUTELSAT will contribute satellite capacity, backed up with their strong technology capabilities and market awareness.
The partnership between EUTELSAT and Nera underpins the strategy of both players to increase their market share of satellite networks in the provision of multimedia and broadband access services.
A key sector in this potential expansion will be the leveraging of the powerful combination of EUTELSAT’S extensive satellite resource that operates in both Ku and Ka bands, and Nera’s state-of-the-art satellite communication equipment.
The DVB-RCS terminals will be powerful tools for corporate, institutional and home office users. They will become a platform for delivery of broadband access and multimedia services to the residential market – in competition with and complementary to DSL and cable TV network solutions.
