MICROSOFT SELECT VISIONTECH TECHNOLOGY
VISIONTECH’s ‘Kfir’ chip has been selected by Microsoft WebTV Networks for incorporation in their Ultimate TV set-top boxes.
VisionTech’s Kfir encoder compresses and decompresses MPEG-2 digital video and audio signals to enable personal video recording capabilities. Kfir captures and encodes uncompressed video and audio and generates MPEG-2 program or transport streams, or MPEG-1 system streams.
Kfir’s applications include cable and satellite set-top boxes, stand-alone personal video recorders, DVD recorders and video over IP.
The Ultimate TV service is due to be launched next year.
