AXON HD-channels used by Alfacam and Euro1080 in Torino

One of the most prestigious recurring international winter sporting events has begun in Torino, Italy as the Winter Olympics get underway.
TOBO, the host broadcaster that is responsible for the production and distribution of all related broadcasts has chosen Alfacam, a European HDTV OB-van forerunner, to provide HDTV facilities for some events. At the same time, HD2, one of the three HDTV channels of Euro1080 and the first ever European HDTV media company, will be involved in the HDTV broadcast of some events live to some countries, and re-broadcasted via HD1 to all European countries in March. Alfacam and Euro1080 will use the advanced modular Synapse gear from AXON DIGITAL DESIGN B.V. to meet their signal-processing demands. All AXON equipment is provided by the host broadcaster.
Among the AXON equipment is a considerable amount of advanced HD processing modules, developed to handle various disciplines such as up- and down conversion, embedding and de-embedding, colour correction, frame synchronization and aspect ratio conversion. The cards are complemented with fibre optic backplanes.
Mr Gabriel Fehervari, CEO of both Alfacam and Euro1080, is particularly enthusiastic about the smart multi-purpose modular HD converting equipment that is at his disposal. "AXON offers a reliable signal-processing platform for all our SD and HD transmissions. We have used their equipment for many renowned international sporting, musical and news events and find that their versatile Synapse solutions offer the smartest solution to our industry-specific needs."
"The HD-revolution in the broadcast world has resulted in a rapid increase in demand of our modular Synapse range," said Harry Kanters, Commercial Director of Axon Digital Design. "Many countries are now joining the HD-bandwagon, and have started refurbishing their broadcast infrastructure. Motion images are better shot in HD than any other available format, consequently more and more broadcasters are motivated to move to HD prior to major sporting events, such as the big one in Torino."
