Carlton Cinema channel to close

Classic movies channel Carlton Cinema is to close next year.
Carlton Cinema, which was the only remaining self-branded channel from Carlton, following the closure of food network Taste CFN and the short-lived Carton World and Carlton Kids channels, were all originally launched for ill-fated ITV Digital.
Since ITV Digital's downfall, Carlton Cinema has only been available to digital cable subscribers and a handful of Telewest analogue subscribers. The channel had been in negotiations for carriage on the Sky Digital service - which would have added millions to the potential viewing audience - but talks between the parties recently broke down.
"We are disappointed to be closing the channel but it has to be profitable and that has not proved possible without additional carriage," explained the channel's director, George McGhee.
The plug will be pulled on Carlton Cinema in March next year.
