SSL LAUNCH AUDIOBRIDGE DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM
OXFORD Company Solid State Logic (SSL) have announced AudioBridge, a new addition to their multi-channel networking expertise.
The new development enables distribution of full bandwidth digital audio via standard data cabling and wide area networks.
The AudioBridge interface extends the company's HiWayT and FreewayT
multi-channel networking technologies by providing full bandwidth digital
audio distribution, both room to room and city to city, without dependence
on low quality, unpredictable Internet delivery systems.
AudioBridge connectivity is characterised by its dependable, continuous service and low coding delay, making it most appropriate for professional audio applications. Using standard (Cat 5) computer wiring and wide-area network data protocols to route full bandwidth digital audio over both hardwired and virtual circuits, AudioBridge data is compatible with standard ATM switches and telecoms interfaces, opening up a world of audio distribution possibilities.
Mark Yonge, Market Manager, Broadcast and Post, said: "While the synchronous signal routing of SSL's HiWay and Freeway audio distribution technology remains most appropriate within a facility where sample-accurate control is necessary. ATM provides a dependable communications standard for wider area networking."
Each AudioBridge 1U rackmounted unit provides an 8-channel, two-way audio connection within a standard 25Mb/s data interface. Where more than 8 channels of audio are needed, multiple AudioBridge units may be aggregated via an ATM switch to increase capacity. Using standard data cabling, AudioBridge provides a convenient and cost-efficient means of constructing temporary circuits within an installation for cable runs of up to 100m. Alternatively, optical fibre may be used between switches to provide connections of up to 2km or more.
Over permanent virtual circuits utilising ATM or telecoms connections, AudioBridge facilitates the direct-dial interconnection of remote SSL 'A' Series' equipped facilities and the fast and reliable exchange of uncompressed digital audio. Full signaling for switched virtual circuit routing is provided, and the unit may be controlled via a single RS232 port from anywhere on the network.
