NET-36 AND SONIC FOUNDRY FORM BROADBAND ALLIANCE
PANAMSAT, providers of satellite-based internet broadcast services, have announced an broadband alliance with Sonic Foundry, the developers and marketers of digital media and internet software tools, services, and systems.
Under the agreement, NET-36 will offer content providers a variety of tailored Sonic Foundry’s Media Services for broadband broadcasting services. The services include encoding, content management, live event webcasting, and customised software or hardware applications, as part of NET-36’s broadband internet broadcasting services.
Chairman and CEO of Sonic Foundry, Rimas P Buinevicius, said: “Sonic Foundry’s expertise in building custom encoding applications, hardware, and consulting services generates high-fidelity internet video for the most demanding content producers in broadcasting. Our alliance with NET-36 ensures that the fidelity of the video viewed by broadband users is the same on their PCs as when it left the studio, untainted by internet congestion.”
NET-36 enables content providers to broadcast digital and streaming media to DSL providers, cable headends, ISPs and broadband wireless providers worldwide.
However, the provision of widespread broadband services by established telecommunications companies in the UK has been heavily criticised for lengthy delays.
In particular, BT has come under fire for failing to meet its own broadband service roll out deadlines for both commercial interests and consumers.
