RTE PROGRAMMES NOMINATED FOR IFTA AWARDS 2000

FOUR programmes from the Irish Language section are among the RTE programmes nominated for the Irish Film and Television Academy Awards 2000 (IFTA).
The Irish language series ‘Leargas’ has been nominated in the ‘Best Features Programme’ category. Over 100 editions of the programme have been transmitted with consistently high audience figures. Commissioning Editor, Mairead Ni Nuadhain, who is also the Series Producer of ‘Leargas’, has submitted the programme on meningitis for the final adjudication. Stephanie Fitzpatrick produced the programme and the reporter was Pat Butler.
Fionn Mac Cumhaill has been nominated in the ‘Best Documentary in Irish’, for ‘Fathach Mor Hollywood’, one of the six arts documentaries made for Cursai Ealaine Teoranta. The programme looks at Ireland’s animation companies and how they can survive in the face of increasing globalisation of culture.
‘Eirinn is Alba’ was also nominated in this category, and this production involved RTE, BBC Northern Ireland and BBC Scotland. The series looks at the historic and cultural ties between Ireland and Scotland.
In the ‘Best Documentary in English’, the IFTA nominations include ‘Luke’, Fernadale Films for RTE, ‘Seven Ages’, Araby Productions for RTE and BBC Northern Ireland and ‘Southpaw’, Treasure Films for RTE.
In the ‘Best News and Current Affairs Programmes’, RTE’s ‘Prime Time’ and ‘Questions & Answers’ have been nominated, while in ‘Best Features Programmes’ the nominees include ‘Imprint’, ‘Later With John Kelly’ and ‘Reeling In The Years’.
