‘In Like Flynn’ to begin filming in Belfast

Producer Dominic Wright has confirmed the Irish feature film ‘In Like Flynn’ has been greenlit and will commence production later this month.
Top names attached to the project include UK actors Iain Glenn (Tara Road) and Steven Mackintosh (The Jacket), and Irish actor Tom Murphy (Adam & Paul).
The script for ‘In Like Flynn’ was written by Niall Heery, who also makes his feature directorial debut with the film. Producers Dominic Wright and Tristan Orpen Lynch have been developing the project at their Dublin production company, Subotica, since Heery brought his script to their attention almost four years ago. Niall Heery is an experienced filmmaker having shot shorts and worked steadily in the industry for a number of years, including assisting Antoine Fuqua on the Jerry Bruckheimer epic ‘King Arthur’.
Described as “a mainstream comedy drama about a man who goes from small town zero to country and western musical hero”, In Like Flynn follows Doug (Iain Glenn) as a down trodden soul who finds fame through his love of country and western music. This is Glenn’s third time shooting in Ireland having previously starred in ‘Song For A Raggy Boy’ in 2003 and Gillies MacKinnon’s ‘Tara Road’ earlier this year.
Glenn has been busy recording a number of musical numbers that Wright says will be used during the film and on the soundtrack.
The five week shoot is scheduled to begin on the November 14 in locations around Belfast. The production is almost fully crewed with all HOD’s on board including production designer Mark Lowery (The Wind That Shakes The Barley, Breakfast On Pluto), IFTA nominated costume designer Hazel Webb Crozier (Mickybo & Me, The Mighty Celt), DOP Tim Fleming (Cinegael Paradiso) and IFTA winning editor Emer Reynolds (Shameless) is posting at Windmill Lane and Ardmore Sound.
The €2.5million film is a Subotica production with funding from the IFB and the NIFTC. Movie House Entertainment will handle sales and current plans are to release the film in the UK and Ireland next year.
