FremantleMedia sells ‘The Story Of 1’ to PBS

David Ellender, Managing Director of FID, has announced that Fremantle International Distribution (FID), the distribution arm of global production outfit FremantleMedia, has secured an important deal in the United States by licensing ‘The Story of 1’ to PBS.
The Story of 1, which was originally commissioned for BBC1 in the UK, has been picked up by US public broadcaster PBS and is due to air nationally on March 29 2006.
The one hour documentary special was created by UK independent producer, Impossible Pictures, the award-winning producers of the ‘Walking With…’ series and has now been sold to broadcasters in 10 territories, including Tohokushinsha in Japan, ABC Australia, Tran TV in Indonesia, RTM in Malaysia, TVNZ in New Zealand, NRK in Norway, STV in Slovakia, Multicanal in Spain, and Radio & TV Bosnia in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Lisa Honig, VP Program Distribution, North America and Canada, FID brokered the deal.
“The Story of 1 is perfect for PBS,” said Ellender. “It is a fascinating show with a universal theme that can be enjoyed by audiences of all ages. It is simultaneously educational while engaging the viewer through skilled story telling and excellent production values.”
The Story of 1 (1x60’) is a highly original and utterly compelling documentary special about the origins and importance of mankind’s most important discovery – the number ‘one’. The Story of 1 is hosted by writer/actor/director Terry Jones who, although best known for his ‘Monty Python’ roles, has also written and presented documentaries such as ‘Medieval Lives’ and ‘The Crusades’. In The Story of 1 Jones takes the viewer on a fascinating and enlightening mystery tour through history to reveal how the discovery of numbers has enabled every human creation throughout time and, ultimately, the evolution of the human race.
