Canadian Campus success for Pyramix

Merging Technologies’ Canadian distributor Sonotechnique, has scored two major successes in the educational field recently with sales of the Pyramix system into two of Canada’s biggest Universities.
Canada’s University of British Columbia School of Music has recently purchased a Pyramix system with Music Pack from Sonotechnique and plans to upgrade soon to DSD to take full advantage of its EMM Labs A/D and Genex D/A converters. The facility has also just installed a Pyramix Native system with Media Bundle to create a new secondary editing suite.
UBC’s Director of Recording & Audio, David Simpson, was first introduced to the Pyramix system by Graemme Brown of Vancouver's Zen Mastering during the recording of Wayne Horvitz and Robin Holcomb's ‘Solo’ surround SACD project for the Songlines label.
He explained: "I can't imagine a better introduction to Pyramix. The combination of Graemme's incredible command of Pyramix and two amazing pianists, whose repertoire on this project explored the full range of the Steinway and really cried out for analogue-like warmth, was very revealing.
“Pyramix performed flawlessly and sounded amazing. Sonics aside, the editing capabilities alone almost brought tears to my eyes - tears because I had just finished several difficult editing projects and it was obvious that Pyramix would have allowed even the most arduous edits to be made much more quickly and precisely than I had imagined was possible. I couldn't get my hands on a Pyramix quickly enough. I've recently used Pyramix to edit several chamber recordings for composer Dorothy Chang and I find I am discovering new delights every time I launch it."
UBC School of Music will be using the system to record, edit and master all recitals and sessions this year and they are looking forward to putting Pyramix through its paces on a number of upcoming projects utilizing its surround and multi-channel capabilities.
