Blue Sound invests in Solid State Logic’s C200 digital console technology

Blue Sound, a well-established studio in Levallois, Paris, has invested in two Solid State Logic C200 digital production consoles for its Studios A and B.
Best known for its sound to picture work for television commercials, Blue Sound also offers music recording and mixing facilities. Studio owner Carlos Duarte has long been an advocate of SSL technology, having already invested in an SL4000 and then an SSL Axiom MT+ console for Studio A. Against this background he describes the move to C200 technology as ‘an easy one to make’.
Blue Sound has now installed a C232 in Studio A and has complemented this by installing a smaller C216 in Studio B that, like Studio A, has a DAW but until now was operating with remote control rather than its own console.
Duarte explains: “I was not happy with the sound quality in Studio B and having tried several ‘ small’ digital desk, plus the remote control solution, I eventually came to the conclusion that maybe a small C200 could solve the problem by providing the quality we were missing. Installing a second C200 also allows us to offer full compatibility between the two studios.
“When we played our Pro Tools sessions through the C200 there was simply no more discussion: we all agreed that the sound quality was remarkable. Despite being a digital console, the C200 gave us the same warmth and good feelings that we got from an analogue desk – and without any of the drawbacks of analogue technology.”
Duarte adds that his staff are ‘blown away’ by the new desk – and customers are also noticing the difference, especially in terms of the compressors and EQs, which Duarte says are the best he’s ever played with.
“The C200 provides us with an incredible amount of information, especially when we are doing a complex 5.1 mix. This level of feedback from a console is a real comfort,” he adds. “The fact that we have been SSL customers for seven years was also a deciding factor because we are used to an unrivalled level of service and commitment. The only real decision we had to make was whether to buy one C200 or two!”
