TSL offers in-monitor-display system tally solution

TSL, a leading international independent broadcast systems integrator and manufacturer, has announced that it has developed In-Monitor-Display (IMD) technology to cater for the increasing number of situations where neither CRTs, with conventional dynamic UMDs, or multiviewers offer the correct overall solution.
Driven by the company’s extensive international system design and integration work, TSL has identified further uses for its popular range of UMD and Tally control systems. Russell Grute, Head of Sales, explained: “In the past year, we have started to find that customers, particularly in larger scale transmission environments or pass-through monitoring, require a monitoring solution comprising a mix of large flat panel displays driven by multiviewers, and a number of individually fed small/medium sized LCD displays."
TSL’s In-Monitor-Display (IMD) embeds the dynamic UMD information and tallies to be displayed directly in-picture on each monitor. “This solution provides an efficient and ergonomically pleasing way of displaying vital information,” said Grute.
The solution is fault-tolerant and scalable in the same way as using individual monitors for each source. The card-based solution communicates directly with the dynamic UMD control system to provide dynamic source information and the usual level of tally functionality in-picture. TSL is also looking into the next version of the IMD to offer high specification audio metering in-monitor. TSL is reproducing the exact look of its industry-standard 106-segment tri-colour bargraph meter, as used in its range of SD and HD-ready Audio Monitoring Units (AMU’s), in a full range of scales to provide a familiar on-screen reference.
