Telestream releases ‘Launch’ news gathering solution

Telestream has announced the immediate availability of its latest news gathering solution, Telestream’s Launch.
Launch is a low-cost personal IP media delivery software application that enables Mac and PC-based journalists and videographers to quickly and efficiently transmit news stories from video editing laptops over any IP network. When delivered to FlipFactory at the station, Telestream provides an important piece in today’s digital news gathering system – automated media delivery all the way into newsroom systems.
“Launch is our first true cross-platform product, and we are very excited about it,” said David Heppe, Telestream’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “With the proliferation of Mac and PC-based laptop field editing, the installation of Launch on these systems extends their usefulness to include automated delivery of the edited media back to the station.”
With Launch, Telestream bridges the islands that exist in today’s digital news workflow – from digital field acquisition tools to the digital newsroom. By combining Launch and FlipFactory, Telestream offers a fully-automated, file-based delivery solution for connecting these digital islands. Residing at the station, FlipFactory automatically ingests content from Launch, transcodes, and delivers the media files to destination systems. Telestream offers the most flexible solution, connecting any nonlinear editing system to all the leading digital newsroom systems and media servers. Outside of news, Launch is also useful for transmitting any edited material from nonlinear editing systems over IP networks.
Importantly, Launch replaces the need to transport physical media, be it tape or disk. Launch software provides for digital news acquisition, what Telestream’s popular ClipMail IP delivery appliance provides for baseband video. Residing on a Windows PC or Mac OS X platform, Launch transcodes media into a choice of broadcast-quality, transport-efficient file formats. For the Mac, Launch accepts all QuickTime media types and transcodes to Windows Media 9 Series, H.264 and MPEG-4. For the PC, input formats include AVI, DV25, MPEG, and Windows Media 9 Series, while output choices include Windows Media 9 Series, MPEG, and QuickTime.
Users simply drag-and-drop or click-and-send media files from a Launch media portal for near-realtime delivery over any IP network, including WiFi connections commonly found at hotels, Internet cafes, and event sites. When combined with FlipFactory, a one-minute clip typically takes nine minutes, start to finish, to convert and deliver from an editing laptop located at a Wi-Fi hotspot to a station’s newsroom system.
Telestream’s exclusive HyperLaunch media delivery protocol, included with Launch, enhances throughput by facilitating robust transport and better utilization of a variety of network connections. HyperLaunch features include resumption of interrupted transfers, encryption for security on PC systems, and incoming file transfer management.
