MTV CONTRACTS LEAD TO BALLOT

AN INDUSTRIAL action ballot will be run at MTV after BECTU members met to discuss new contracts.
BECTU members working for the Camden-based music broadcaster met on January 10, and called for the ballot in protest over planned changes in their terms and conditions.
Although the Union is not recognised by MTV for bargaining purposes, a significant proportion of the 100-strong workforce are members. Last month BECTU succeeded in delaying changes the company wanted to make in employment contracts until February 21, to allow consultation between management and staff.
Since then letters from the company to staff have indicated that members working in the broadcast services section would be hit particularly hard by a cut in their annual leave entitlement once the consultative period ends.
MTV have been given a legal notice that a ballot of members will begin on January 22, with a closing date of February 2. (CMcL)
