SPIELBERG CHOOSES UK LIGHTING

‘Band of Brothers’, a new Stephen Spielberg-produced television series, has been primarily lit by UK rental specialists, Lee Lighting.
Tight schedules and the scale of the production meant that nearly 50 electricians worked on the location at any one time. Equipment lists have been equally demanding, including 450 Spacelights, 4.4Megawatts of Power, and a 15 feet diameter ‘Jimmy Soft’, using 54 CP62 lamps.
As Mole Richardsons UK distributor, Lights Camera Action (LCA) were delighted to provide MoleBeam 4ks for the production. The MoleBeam is based on the reliable Mole Richardson HMI product line, but with an all-glass 24” parabolic reflector. This light source uses an industry standard Single Ended HMI or MSR lamp, and offers UV protected front glass. The mirror allows the MoleBeam to produce a variable focused, narrow parallel beam of crisp, white, light.
‘Band of Brothers’ Gaffer, Jimmy Wilson, used the MoleBeams during night shoots, he said: “Our operators could move the MoleBeams to replicate the ‘look’ of a wartime searchlight, burning them in any position we wanted, without the hassle of using either Xenon or carbon arc sources.” (GB)
