AUDIO LTD CELEBRATE KUBRICK’S 2001

AUDIO LTD are celebrating the 30th anniversary of ‘2001 A Space Odyssey’, the seminal movie that established the reputation of the radio mic company within the film industry.
When Geoffrey Blundell, Chairman of Audio Ltd, walked on to the original set of the movie and presented his unique radio mics to Director Stanley Kubrick, they were met with a measure of scepticism.
At the time Kubrick was shooting within a huge, revolving machine that had been built as the centre-piece for the spaceship scenes. The problem was that after six or so revolutions, conventional mic cables tangled and needed to be cut and replaced, a lengthy and costly process. Audio Ltd’s high quality radio mics gave flexibility and freedom to film without these tedious interruptions.
Kubrick was eventually won over by the mics. In fact he was so impressed that the mics were used on many of his subsequent productions.
Blundell said: “Those three channels of radio mics made all the difference to the sound on those rotating scenes. It was an honour to have Audio Ltd mics on Kubrick films. Thirty years on Audio’s radio mics are still in constant demand in major film productions.” (GB)
