BFI LAUNCHES ‘DRAWN TO BE WILD’ PROJECT
THUNDERBIRDS creator, Gerry Anderson, recently joined young animators Leonie Walker, Joseph la Hausse, and Blue Peter Presenter Konnie Huq to launch the ‘Drawn To Be Wild’ project at the BFI National Film Theatre in London.
‘Drawn to be Wild’ runs from February 3 until the end of April 2001. Highlights will include screenings of a varied selection of animated films at more than 25 cinemas UK-wide, hands-on workshops, special events, competitions and the new children's website at www. bfi.org.uk/wild.
BFI Director, Jon Teckman, said: “We have scoured the world for inspirational animation and we are showcasing the greatest possible range of techniques. By getting involved, either in local cinemas or online, young viewers will be able to explore a fantastically rich variety of animation, from some early experiments to the latest releases, and, we hope, to have a lot of fun.”
Ten-year-olds, Leonie Walker and Joseph la Hausse, from Newnham Croft Primary School, Cambridge, were the winners of the BFI schools' challenge to design a character and flick book which was transformed into the ‘Drawn to be Wild’ logo.
Their designs feature on all publicity material and illustrate the new children's website. (CMcL)
