Fact takes its message to trading standards event

DVD piracy and its connection to a wide variety of criminal activities will be brought under the microscope at this year’s Trading Standards Conference & Exhibition.
The Federation Against Copyright Theft (Fact) will be exhibiting throughout the event, which takes place at the Brighton Metropole Hotel June 21-23.
As film piracy escalates to new levels, Fact is keen to illustrate DVD piracy’s association with broader criminality to key policymakers and Trading Standards officers who will be attending the conference.
Director-General of Fact Raymond Leinster said: “There is much to be done to counter the prolific nature of DVD piracy. By exhibiting at this year’s conference and exhibition we aim to develop appreciation of the range and complexity of this crime type, and particularly the immediate and long-term impact on communities as a whole.
“We are keen to discuss opportunities with policymakers and resource managers to engage further in the fight against film piracy. Fact's relationship with Trading Standards professionals is crucial to the investigation of counterfeit film product and this event facilitates widespread dialogue towards improving investigative capacities.”
Fact’s presence at the event is also being supported by senior executives from UK representatives from international film companies who will be delivering a number of presentations on the industry response to piracy.
