YAMAHA TO DISCONTINUE NS10M STUDIO MONITOR SPEAKERS

YAMAHA Corporation of Japan have announced that production of the industry standard NS10M STUDIO monitors speakers is to cease from Spring 2001.
Yamaha confirmed that the principal reason for the discontinuation in production is that the special wood pulp used in the woofer cone is no longer available. Despite a world-wide search for a replacement material, none was found that could provide an effective sonic substitute. Given the emphasis Yamaha place on sound quality and impact the NS10M STUDIO's have had in the market place over the past 14 years it was felt that the respected '10M Studio' sound could not be compromised by using lesser materials.
Along with the NS10M Yamaha's Head of UK Music Production, Peter Peck said: “We are deeply grateful to the many NS10M users world-wide who have helped made this product the industry standard since it's launch in 1987. In spite of this decision we are committed to developing and manufacturing industry standard professional studio monitor products."
Studio production of NS10MC and NS40M STUDIO models will also be discontinued. Yamaha confirmed that it will still be possible to obtain spare part replacement drivers for the foreseeable future and production of the NS10 variants for the domestic Audio - Visual markets will remain unaltered.
Yamaha are confident that the gap left by the NS10M STUDIO's will be effectively filled by the recently introduced MSP series powered monitors and hope that they will continue to set a new industry standard.
The MSP10 and MSP5 bi-amped monitors have been designed for professional recording, post-production broadcast and project studio environments. The MSP10 features an 8-inch woofer housed in a bass reflex design cabinet and a 1-inch pure titanium dome tweeter with wide dispersion waveguide horn.
The internal power provides 120 watts for low frequencies and 65 watts for high frequencies. (CD)
