Autodesk announce latest in Discreet line-up at NAB

Autodesk opened its 'Greater Than One' exhibition at NAB in Las Vegas to showcase a "powerful product line-up designed to help broadcasters, post-production facilities, and film and broadcast production companies realize their ideas".
Announced were the latest versions of visual effects and editing systems, including Discreet Inferno 6.2, Discreet Flame 9.2, Discreet Flint 9.2, Discreet Fire 6.7 and Discreet Smoke 6.7 including support for the Apple Final Cut Pro '.XML' meta-data exchange format.
New HD I/O capabilities for Flint 9.2 visual effects system and Smoke 6.7 editing systems were announced. Along with HD capable PC versions the software, introduced at NAB was Autodesk TV Suite featuring Flint and Smoke and the Autodesk DI Suite featuring Flame and Smoke DI.
Autodesk introduced Discreet Lustre 2.6 and Autodesk Incinerator - an inline cluster of configurable processing units that enhance the system’s real-time performance.
As usual the Autodesk booth featured a real-world example of the next-generation in data-centric media production facilities. Based on a Gigabit Ethernet IT backbone using Autodesk’s Stone shared storage area network on display were desktop computers and high-performance workstations scaling up from basic desktop graphic design to full-on real-time digital intermediates (DI) production.
Autodesk’s other recent announcements included:
  • The signing of a definitive agreement to acquire substantially all of the assets of Colorfront, a leading developer of colour correction technology for film studios and digital film laboratories;
  • The introduction of Autodesk Toxik - new creative and collaborative software for feature film visual effects;
  • An extension of Autodesk Consulting’s services to the media and entertainment industry.
