TRUBY SCREENWRITING MASTERCLASS WEEKEND
ONE of America's leading experts in screenwriting and story craft, John Truby, is to hold a two-day workshop on Advanced Story Structure on March 10 to 11.
This instant script school offers a dynamic refresher course for industry personnel and aims to demystify Hollywood while teaching film writing and the script business.
Truby’s seminar has been taken by over 15,000 students worldwide. Writers, directors and producers of films as diverse as ‘Outbreak’, ‘Sleepless in Seattle’, ‘The Addams Family’, ‘Beetle Juice’, ‘Kiss of the Spiderwoman’, ‘The Opposite of Sex’, ‘There's Something About Mary’ and ‘Star Wars’ have all attended this intensive seminar, basing their first successes on the advanced and ground-breaking techniques John teaches at the Truby Writers Studio in Los Angeles.
Day one deals with ‘Finding the perfect structure’. Discover the actual step-by-step process to create a dynamic structure for your story and learn how to translate it to the screen by discarding the three-act story structure used by writers and develop a story structure suited for the movie environment of the late 1990's.
Topics covered will include: structure how to find the perfect structure for your story; creating the single driving force; the four requirements of a good hero; the three character traits to avoid; desire and motivation; the five major character changes; the four keys to the perfect opponent; writing characters that aren't like you; and the tricks of Hollywood's most popular genres.
During day two the 22 building blocks, subplot, dialogue will be teased apart as the writers learn the real method and techniques used by top professionals to layer plot, dialogue, subplot and setting to create a dynamic and satisfying story.
Topics covered include: the 22 building blocks of every great script; pacing by character growth and not by page number; using the subplot; how to write three-track dialogue; the secrets of building the scene; and dialogue that increases the conflict; how to write a great low budget feature; and the business of screenwriting.
The course is also part of the Diploma courses series for writers and filmmakers.
This is his only seminar in Europe this year - so don't miss out.
