Gamma & Density Co. heads to NAB with 3cP

Gamma & Density Co. will premiere its dynamic 3cP (Cinematographer’s Color Correction Program) on-set colour correction system at this year’s NAB conference.
This precise and complete solution, developed by cinematographers, for cinematographers, introduces a de facto standard by bridging the gap between DP’s and the telecine and DI colourists to enable the cinematographer’s vision to be communicated more accurately to the colourist.
By virtue of a patented chart and software, 3cP brings a concept of unification – or a unified standard – between the set and distribution. “We view this as introducing a vision or concept to the industry, not merely selling tools,” explained Yuri Neyman, DP and CEO/Founding Partner of Gamma & Density Co. “What we’re demonstrating is a thorough control system - a working concept of a unified standard that allows the DP’s vision to translate to screen. It happens to be achieved through this portable, user-friendly package that delivers exacting results.”
For his own use as a DP, Neyman, along with G&D VP and Co-Founder Sacha Riviere, developed 3cP’s integrated Telecine Colour Control Chart to eliminate the 'guesswork' for DP’s in their communication with colourists.
This new postproduction standard ensures uniform calibration of all input and output devices between the system and postproduction facilities and is recognised by DP’s in over 30 countries. The 3cP package for film and video (including a Thomson Viper camera) consists of an input device and software, bundled with a laptop with display expressly calibrated for use on film and HD productions.
“3cP’s very practical, user-friendly interface returns control to the cinematographer without requiring extensive knowledge of colour science,” remarked Sacha Riviere. “Scenes are colour-corrected on-set within minutes, providing instant on-screen results that reflect the DP’s big-screen vision.”
When completed, 3cP colour-corrected images incorporating descriptive metadata, are forwarded to the post facility via the Internet or on CD-ROM. The colourist receives images colour corrected by the DP with all pertinent metadata. The metadata describes all the changes made on the set in terms the colourist will understand. With the DP’s choice of look defined, the colourist can quickly and efficiently deliver video dailies and a first pass of DI that is extremely close to DP’s vision.
