‘Green-friendly’ DVCAM camcorder delivers improved imaging performance

From April 2005 Sony is introducing an attractively-priced new DVCAM camcorder that makes even higher levels of imaging quality and performance accessible to professional videographers and corporate programme makers.
The DSR-400P is also expected to appeal to cost-conscious broadcasters and rental companies thanks to its cost-effective blend of quality imaging and convenient user features.
Fully compliant with latest Sony ‘Green Management’ directives targeted at reducing the environmental impact of its electronic products, the DSR-400P is provisionally priced at less than €12,000 in a package that includes a Fujinon 17x lens.
Featuring a stylish new one-piece design, the camcorder is based around three 2/3” (4:3 aspect ratio) PowerHAD EX CCD imaging sensors. This larger CCD offers a dramatic improvement in imaging – including higher sensitivity and reduced smear levels – compared with ½” sensor models. Enhanced imaging performance is complemented by a large fold-out 2.5” LCD monitor screen that gives programme makers the opportunity to frame and assess shots with greater precision.
Refined user ergonomics include an adjustable shoulder pad, precise battery life indicator and assignable switches for quick access to frequently-used functions. Camera set-ups can also be stored to removable memory stick media for quick, convenient set-up and recall of key parameters.
“Sony camcorders like the DSR-390P have already attracted a dedicated following from programme makers looking for the best possible blend of features, performance and value from the DVCAM format,” said Mike Hayakawa, European Product Manager at Sony Europe. “The DSR-400P continues this tradition, while significantly improving imaging quality and overall usability thanks to its 2/3” CCD sensor and refined ergonomics. It also demonstrates Sony’s ongoing commitment to bring all new camera products in line with its industry-leading Green Management programme.”
