THE HIVE TRIUMPH IN CANADA
Fatboy Slim’s ‘Demons’ promo has come up trumps for London company The Hive by winning the award for Best Effects in a Music Video at the Vancouver Effects and Animation Festival (VEAF).
The promo, directed by Garth Jennings and produced by Nick Goldsmith beat off highly rated competition in the form of Robbie Williams’ “Rock DJ” and Muse’s “Unintended”.
Animated elements played a big part in the look of the promo. 3D CG specialists The Hive created a malignant animated claw and a flying ‘bird’, which bursts from the promo’s piano prison to enable the heroic protagonists to flee. Flame artist Wes created piano keys that formed part of the office in which the female lead works. He also performed a particularly delicate compositing job, matching the depth of field of the added images to that created when shooting the background with a boroscopic lens.
