Minister praises award-winning 'Getting Involved' short film

A Government-funded DVD aimed at getting parents more involved in their children's education has won a prestigious award at The New York Festivals International Film and Video Awards.
The 'Getting Involved' DVD, commissioned by CfBT as part of the Key Stage 3 National Strategy, has been awarded a Silver World Medal in a competition against videos from around the world entered in the Educational category.
Minister of State for Schools Stephen Twigg said: "This is a tremendous achievement for the National Strategies and reflects the quality of the work that is being done to spread effective teaching and learning to every classroom.
"Getting parents to become more involved in their children's education is hugely important and I am delighted that this video has received the recognition it deserves by being given such a prestigious international award"
Director of the Key Stage 3 National Strategy, Sue Hackman, added: "I live with two teenagers so I know first-hand how hard it can be to get a handle on their homework and progress. I began to think of the small things we had done to keep in touch with their learning, and realised there were some easy, simple and even fun ways to help. My top ten tips became the first draft of the video script!"
Research has shown that by taking an active role in their child's education, parents can make a real difference to their achievement. This film suggests ten simple ways a parent or carer can get more involved and make a big difference to their child's progress in school. It portrays real life situations which many families will be able to identify with - from the early morning rush to finding the time and space to do homework in the evening.
