Storwell save space at ITV Archives

A huge logistics operation to move scattered TV archive collections to a new home in Leeds has resulted in a 50 per cent space saving, thanks to Storwell Systems.
ITV took on a 1250 sq metre warehouse to bring together collections from libraries at Meridian, Carlton Nottingham and Carlton Birmingham. But when Redditch-based Storwell carried out a detailed costings study before designing the interior of the new library, they came up with innovative space and cost-saving ideas which have left bosses with space to spare.
Over three months Storwell, who designed the original installations at Southampton and Nottingham, facilitated meetings at each site, while concluding it would be more efficient and cost-effective to design bespoke mobile storage units for Leeds, making use of the full height of the building. This brought further savings on the original budget because stock could go straight into the new units with reduced risk of loss during transfer. Stock would also be available for use at all times during the operation.
Careful planning meant the £80,000 contract was completed without hitch in its planned three weeks, while the special shelving and mobile units designed and installed by Storwell were ready ahead of schedule.
