AKM introduces enhanced 24-bit CODEC

Asahi Kasei Microsystems (AKM), a leading supplier of audio ICs for professional and consumer markets, has introduced the AK4620A, a 24-bit, 2-channel A/D and D/A converter with exceptional performance.
AKM already produces 24-bit CODECs for consumer and musical instrument applications capable of 96kHz sampling ( such as the AK4524 and AK4528), but the new AK4620A achieves sample rates up to 216KHz, making it ideal for the professional and prosumer market.
The ADC side supports both single-ended input with IPGA and low distortion differential input. These modes are switchable by pin or register control.
The single-ended input mode improves the ADC’s dynamic range by 10dB when compared with AK4524, while the differential input mode achieves a 5dB improvement in dynamic range when compared with the AK4528.
The AK4620A supports the playback of direct stream digital (DSD) data, allowing switching on the DAC side between PCM and DSD data.
The DAC side boasts further improvements in AKM’s advanced multi-bit architecture and achieves a virtually flat noise floor up to 80 kHz for PCM data.
The AK4620A is available in a 30-pin VSOP package, and evaluation boards for demo of the high quality sound and samples are available now.
