AKM launch low power A/D and D/A converter

AKM, a leading supplier of audio ICs for professional and consumer markets, has released the AK4555, a low power-consuming, simple 20-bit stereo A/D and D/A converter, designed to meet the latest trends in portable audio and AV system devices.
With its advanced low 1.6V performance, the AK4555 is ideal for the latest portable audio and video devices such as MP3 players and DVRs (digital video recorders), which are smaller and much more power-efficient than their predecessors. The AK4555 succeeds the AK4550, a 2.5V low-power consuming 16-bit A/D and D/A converter already widely used in portable audio devices.
The AK4555 has an audio I/F with I2S format, which has proven more popular than the MSB justified format of AK4550. A second version, AK4554 will also be released shortly, which will be compatible with the AK4550. These new A/D and D/A converters utilise AKM’s enhanced dual-bit delta-sigma architecture and advanced multi-bit architecture. The unique low-power circuits maintain performance yet power consumption is reduced by 20 per cent when compared with the AK4550. Excellent anti-jitter characteristics are provided by switched capacitor technology.
In addition to the normal clock modes - 256fs, 384fs, 512fs, and 768fs - the master clock supports 1024fs, which improves noise outside of the band at a sampling rate up to 25kHz, and sound quality when sampling at low speed.
The AK4555 is available in a 16-pin TSSOP package. Evaluation boards and samples are available now.
